Emil and the Detectives
Due to COVID-19 this production was postponed. However, thanks to the ingenuity of the show’s director, Belinda Massey, the production was re-imagined and re-worked into a film!
Our original cast showed their versatility and took part in filming over 2 weeks.
We look forward to being able to share the film with audiences at the beginning of 2021!!
Never underestimate the resilience of a child!
Emil Tischbein is a boy set with a task: take some money by train to his grandmother, who lives in the big city, Berlin.
The journey should be easy but Emil falls asleep on the train. Upon awakening Emil’s money has gone and so has the odd stranger from his carriage, Herr Grundeis.
But the thief has underestimated Emil and is about to discover that he was no easy target. Emil and a group of resourceful children rally around to outsmart the criminal. Working together to prove Herr Grundeis’ guilt to disbelieving adults after the capture rather than before.
Emil and the Detectives is a coming of age story about how we find our friends in the world and how we can work together to defeat tricksters by staying true to who we are.
Belinda Massey has adapted the script from Erich Kästner’s 1929 novel of the same name. More than just madcap fun and adventure, this novel paved the way for the children-versus-devious adult story genre.
Redfoot Youth Theatre boys and girls from Year 7 to Year 12 will present this colourful adventure full of intrigue and delight. This wild story will be told for audiences both young and old.
More details to come.
